Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does it cost to get something custom framed?
This is probably the most common question we get asked and also the most difficult one to answer. The reason for this is the sheer number of variables that can affect the price. We have well over a thousand different frame options available to order, hundreds of different mountboards, nearly a dozen glazing options as well as having to consider the specific requirements of the artwork itself. If we had a price list, it would probably be a mile long! We strongly recommend getting in touch, either by phone, email or using the contact form on our website, with as much information about the items you wish to frame (size, materials, an idea of the style of frame you're looking for) and we'll be more than happy to get back to you with an estimate on price. It's even better if you're able to call into the shop with the items. Then we can take a look at some different options, see what works and get you a free, accurate, no obligation quote for the framing. But we can give you an idea of what to expect. For an artwork on paper, in a simple wooden frame, with a 5cm mount, glass, backing and fitting and finishing so that your frame is ready to hang on the wall, prices would start as follows for standard paper sizes... Sports shirt framing starts from around £160.00 for a jersey mounted in a simple box frame.
  • Do you have ready made frames?
Yes! We have dozens available, in a range of sizes and styles, all ready to take home with you straight away. You're welcome to call into the shop anytime you like to take a look. From small 6"x4" photo frames, starting at under £10.00, up to A2 and 50x70cm poster frames, from £40.00, we have frames in nearly all standard photo and paper sizes. We aim to stock a variety of styles, from simple black and white profiles, to more ornate and metallic finishes. We also stock a range of hand painted bobbin, bamboo and tabernacle frames and mirrors - along with our fantastic Tunnock's Teacake frames which are hand "gilded" with the iconic foil wrappers - a must have for any Scottish household! All of our ready made frames come with a mountboard which can be cut to accommodate a non-standard size artwork at no extra cost. If you can't see the perfect frame for you in stock, we can made ready made frames to order in any size and style you want. Once it's ready, you can take it away and fit the artwork yourself at home. This is great, affordable way of getting the perfect frame for you artwork. All of our ready made frames are made in house, from the same materials we use for bespoke frames. So it's same quality, just a little bit cheaper! If you have any queries about our ready made frames, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
  • How long does it take to get something framed?
Generally, we operate on a two week turnaround time for custom framing orders. However, during busy periods, this can extend to three to four weeks. The run up to Christmas tends to be quite a busy time so if you're thinking gifting a loved one some framed artwork, we'd recommend getting things to us as early as you can. If you do have a particular deadline that you need to work to, please do get in touch and we will do our absolute best to accommodate your order!
  • Is there anything you can't frame?
Generally speaking, no. We've framed everything from photos to football shirts, canvases to crockery sets, books to butterflies, tea towels to trainers and even part of a submarine. We love a challenge! So if you're wondering if it can be framed, don't hesitate to ask and we'll do our best to work something out for you. Extremely large, heavy or bulky artworks and items can be a bit more tricky as they tend to be difficult to handle safely. Rest assured, if we're not confident that we'll be able frame something to our high, professional standards, we won't take a job on. Protecting your treasured items and artworks for years to come is our number one priority
  • Can you cut mounts and replace glass?
Absolutely! Sometimes a new mount and glass can give an existing framed artwork a new lease of life. If you have a frame and artwork that you love, but they're slightly different sizes, we can cut a mount for you. We are able to order in card in hundreds of different colours and we'll be happy to take a look at the different options with you to find the perfect match. If we have the materials in stock, we will try, where possible, to cut the mount while you wait. If you've moved house recently, it's almost certain that one or more of your picture frames will now have broken glass in it - it's unavoidable! Not to worry though. We can cut replacement glass for you and as with new mounts, where possible, we will try to do it while you wait. For larger pieces or frames that require the old glass to be safely removed and the new glass fitted, it may take a few days for us to complete the work but we will endeavour to get it done as quickly as possible. As well as regular float glass, we are able to offer UV glass, anti reflective glass and museum glass. These options offer extra protection to your artwork against harmful UV rays and also incredible clarity. Be sure to ask to see some examples when in store.
  • Do I need to make an appoinment?
No. Feel free to call in anytime you like. It's very unlikely there will be a queue down the street, but if we are with another customer, you shouldn't have to wait for more than a few minutes. While you wait, you're welcome to browse the samples we have on display and take a look at the examples we have on our gallery wall. There's also a lovely little coffee shop next door but one if you want to grab a drink and a snack while you wait!
  • Do you sell gift vouchers?
We do! If you're buying a loved one a piece of art, your best friend is moving into a new house or you're in need of a great Birthday or Christmas present, a gift voucher for The Little Framing Company is a fantastic present! Available in £10, £20 and £50 denominations, they can be used for bespoke frames and mirrors, or to purchase our ready made frames and mirrors. No need for you to worry about picking a frame which will match their living room curtains, let them come and pick the perfect frame for themselves! Pop into the shop to pick one up or get in touch and we can arrange for them to be posted out directly to your nearest and dearest.
  • I don't live near Glasgow. Can you still frame things for me?
Firstly, we're really sorry you don't live near the wonderful city of Glasgow. You should pay a visit sometime. You wont want to leave! But back to the question... yes we can. For those of you a little further afield, we sell our bobbin and bamboo frames, along with a few others, on Etsy. Bobbin and bamboo frames can be ordered in a range of set sizes, in your choice of colour and finish, or you're welcome to get in touch to order bespoke sizes too. We're hoping to widen the range of what we offer on Etsy in the coming months. You'll find the link to our Etsy shop on our website's homepage. We are also able to take on some bespoke framing work remotely, which can be shipped via courier once completed. We are unable to take on glazed pieces larger than A2 due to the risks involved with shipping glass. But please get in touch if you have anything you'd be interested in having framed by us and we'll see what we can do.
  • Do you make bobbin frames?
Absolutely, we do! They've become somewhat of a specialty of ours. We can make bobbin frames in any size you like, in four different widths (15mm, 20mm, 30mm and 40mm) and we can paint them in almost any colour you like ( we love the Farrow and Ball Signature Range). We can also make the frames into mirrors to add the perfect finishing touch to your room. Please get in touch for a quote or pop into the shop to see some samples and discuss all of the available options.
  • Who will be framing my work?
One of the benefits of choosing The Little Framing Company is that it is a small family business. We have a very small team, meaning it's very likely that the person you speak to when choosing your frame will be the person making your frame and handing it back to you once it's ready. The shop is run on a day to day basis by Paul, aka the person writing this. After finishing a degree in Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art and Design, Paul started framing in 2014. Initially working in a number of framing shops in the Cotswolds, Gloucester and Bristol, Paul took over the Little Framing Company in 2018 when it was based in Bristol and moved it up to Glasgow in 2023. He is very passionate about framing and is incapable of walking into a museum, gallery, pub or restaurant without spending an inordinately large amount of time looking at/critiquing the frames on display! But most importantly, he still gets a buzz from the process of taking a piece of artwork, designing the perfect framing solution, then turning that design into reality! Helping Paul is his beautiful wife, Kirsty. A scientist by day, she has been known to lend a hand in the shop from time to time but is great when it comes to business development and marketing - not to mention the hours and hours of unpaid moral support she's provided over the years. There's no doubt that the Little Framing Company wouldn't be what it is today without her! Completing the line up and excelling in the role of shop dog, is Motley. Although, not a regular member of staff, you will, on occasion, find him distracting Paul from his work and demanding attention and walks. Here we all are looking very handsome on our wedding day.
